Winter Blues Blast

Aki Kumar, an up-and-coming San Jose blues musician, and Content Magazine featured artist, has hand-selected some of the most celebrated blues musicians in the world to perform at his first ever Winter Blues Blast. The event will be held tonight at the historic, charming Trianon Theatre in downtown San Jose  at 7:30 PM. “This is perhaps the best lineup I’ve ever presented,” Kumar told us. “Trianon is not known for blues concerts, but I’m hoping to turn in into a downtown blues destination.” The venue will add a picturesque backdrop to this unique, winter-time event. The Trianon Theatre was built in 1923. The look was inspired by the Le Petit Trianon, the tiny chateau on the palace grounds of Versailles. Trianon has been said to be the best example of classic architecture in San Jose.

The Winter Blues Blast is a rare get together in the South Bay Area of some of today’s greatest blues masters hailing from Chicago, Southern California, and the San Francisco Bay Area. At the helm will the legendary blues harmonica player and vocalist Kim Wilson. Wilson formed the Fabulous Thunderbirds with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan in the early 1970s. He scored a few big hits and has opened for the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton in the past.

Tonight, Kim Wilson brings his Blues All-Stars Project to San Jose. This includes an all-star lineup of Billy Flynn on guitar, who is from Chicago. In addition, Richard Innes (on drums) and Larry Taylor (on bass) will be coming from Southern California. This unique group will make the night all the more special for aficionados of the traditional blues sound, as well as for those who are just beginning to explore the genre.

Another highlight of the show will be Chicago blues great, Barrelhouse Chuck. He will be making a rare Bay Area appearance at the Winter Blues Blast. His knowledge of the genre and depth on the piano is to many considered to be unmatched in the blues scene.

Blues vocalist, Alabama Mike will perform an opening set. Alabama Mike, is heavy-hitter in the Bay Area blues scene. He is a supreme vocalist and is known for his magnetic stage presence. Alabama Mike will be joined by virtuoso guitarist Kid Andersen and rising Bay Area blues guitar star, Kyle Jester.
