Valentine’s Round-Up

There is nothing wrong with the classic dinner and a movie equation for Valentine’s Day, but why not try something a little different this year? Poetry, wine, and pillow fights—these could be the start of a romantic outing.

Valentine’s Revel (2/15)

Nothing says romance like a little poetry. Come celebrate the 37th annual Valentine’s Revel with former Santa Clara County poets laureate Nils Peterson and Sally Ashton. Grab a glass of wine and something to eat at 5pm before the 5:30pm poetry reading. On Valentine’s Day, people celebrate their sweethearts. At this event on the following day, guests will celebrate the world with these gifted poets. Galway Kinnell said that all good writing has in common “a tenderness toward existence.” That is a sentiment that is best felt in company.

Wine, Walk, and Trivia (2/14)

Discover the romance of your city. Treat a sweetheart to a night of wine tasting, a stroll around town, and a couples’ trivia challenge. The heartfelt welcome starts at Divine Wines and will include a flight of four local wines. Guests will embark from there on a guided stroll around downtown to hear a few stories from the “heart” of San Jose’s history. The evening will continue back at Divine Wines, where guests will have a chance to test their wits against other couples in a Vine, Valley, and Valentine Trivia Contest.

Black, Red, and White Valentine’s Ball (2/17)

For any couple that has wanted to try dancing together but just didn’t know where to start, Friday Night Waltz is a great option. This casual class plus dance party is a perfect introduction that doesn’t demand prior experience, fancy clothes, or even a partner. In honor of Valentine’s Day, guests are encouraged to wear black, red, and/or white—from t-shirts to tuxedos. There will also be special Valentine’s refreshments, including strawberry pie, chocolate cake, and French silk vanilla ice cream.

The Ultimate Wine Run (2/11)

Feeling the need to balance out the box of chocolates with a little exercise? Fitness fanatics and wine aficionados can both find happiness and stay motivated at The Ultimate Wine Run, which includes a 5k run or 1k walk with lots of wine and fun festivities. The wine tasting features different premium wines from the best wineries from California all the way to the East Coast. The evening will be packed with activities such as: a rocking live DJ, a dance floor, and amazing food trucks. And, of course, there will be plenty of wine.

Feathers of Fury 7 (2/12)

Forget the pillow talk, and let the feathers fly instead. Pillow Fight SJ, aka Feathers of Fury, is back for its seventh year. Since 2011, San Jose has held its own massive pillow fights every year, inspired by the Great Pillow Fights of San Francisco. The tradition continues this year, bringing fun and cheer to downtown San Jose the week of Valentine’s Day. Both veteran pillow pugilists and first-timer feather throwers are welcome.

Un-Valentine’s Options:

Single? Jaded? Rebellious? While many of the events highlighted in this blog post don’t require a romantic partner to enjoy, the Un-Valentine’ Round-Up features options that are specifically tailored for those who are sick of seeing pink hearts and hearing sappy love songs this February.
