Autumn is the season for beer and bratwurst. Ranging from straightforward food festivals to full cultural festivals, there are Oktoberfest celebrations of all sizes throughout Silicon Valley. Find your favorite flavor or sample them all.

GeektoberFest (10/1)

Silicon Valley puts its own geeky twist on Oktoberfest courtesy of The Tech Museum. At the latest installment of Creative Collisions, the after-hours series that celebrates innovation in the arts through interactive experiences, participants can explore the “biology of beer” with BioCurious, a local hackerspace for biotech. This 21+ event includes tastings from local and regional craft breweries, as well as beer-brewing demos and talks from expert brewers. Participating breweries include: Blue Oak Brewing Company, Fort Point Beer Company, Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, Hermitage Brewing Company, North Coast Brewing Company, Santa Clara Valley Brewing, and Strike Brewing Company. Tickets and information.

Mountain View Oktoberfest (10/3–10/4)

Featuring a 7000-square-foot beer tent, Mountain View’s two-day celebration will include authentic German beer, along with food, entertainment, and family activities. For the competitive adults in the crowd, there will be stein holding contests, a biggest beer belly contest, and “life-size beer pong.” This event is presented by Steins Beer Garden, Tied House, and the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce. More information.

Oktoberfest at the Market (10/10)

For some creative food pairings, try a “Market twist,” on German dishes, featuring German recipes with a little flair thrown in. There will also be classic German and rock music, games, and downtown San Jose camaraderie leading up to the Sharks opening home game. Tickets and information.

Gordon Biersch Oktoberfest (10/10)

Go right to the source with Gordon Biersch‘s celebration at their brewery. Following the tapping of the first keg with Mayor Sam Liccardo, enjoy traditional German-style beers and the newest cider. This inaugural event will also feature tours of the brewery, along with plenty of food, games, and roaming musicians. Tickets and information.

Oktoberfest in Downtown Campbell (10/17–10/18)

Oktoberfest turns 21 in Campbell this year. Celebrate with two days of live music, over 100 arts and crafts vendors, and, of course, plenty of German beer and food. An estimated 30,000 people will visit Campbell’s historic downtown in the heart of Silicon Valley. More information.
